This award has been granted since 1991 from the initiative of 'Czas Krakowski' newspaper. From 1998 onwards its only sponsor is the Trade & Industry Chamber in Kraków.

'Krakowski Dukat' award has the promotional character and is given not to the particular company but to the founder and manager of a company. The award distinguishes and honours a person for the achieved economic results, invention and for the ability to share the success with others from the company's environment.

In 2007 Janusz Kasztelewicz was awarded with 'Krakowski Dukat' for the best company owner.
