Vets unusual visit
"Sadecki Bartnik" was one of the organizers of a vet training that was held at the beekeeping farm on 15th and 16th of April.

The main reason why dr Krzysztof Ankiewicz , the veterinarian for Malopolska district, decided to organize such a training was the lately observed dramatic fall in number of bee families caused by foul brood. This situation has resulted from weakening of bees by varroa destructor and pesticides due to ban on using antibiotics in bees treatment.

The objective of the training was to present the latest methods of preventing and overcoming mentioned above disease.

The presence of dr Krzysztof Jazdzewski, who is the Deputy General Veterinarian, honoured the occasion. The lectures and practical activities in the apiary were conducted by dr Zbigniew Lipinski from Olsztyn - the expert on beekeeping and bee diseases.

The first day of training, commenced with a short lecture on biology and beekeeping, was devoted to the disease and its diagnostics, including the treatment of the disease while adhering to Polish law. During the lectures, the participants had the chance to see under a microscope typical symptoms of foul brood.

On the second day practical activities took place in the beekeeping apiary. They were focused on examining bee families and the whole apiary in search of foul brood, to disinfect beehives, tools and beekeeping equipment, and to displace bee families suffering from this disease. The participants visited the bee queens breeding laboratory and the workshops of the beekeeping farm that comprise of over a thousand bee families.

The training included visiting a few thematically diversed exhibitions devoted to beekeeping, which were displayed in the uniquely equipped Beekeeping Museum. The participants could also see the new bottling plant , where especially impressive was the new laboratory and the warehouse of beehives, beekeeping equipment, beekeeping tools and medicines for bees.

The participants were accommodated at "Bacia Marysia" hotel and the meals were offered by "Bartna Chata" restaurant.
